MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

What is a good movie? If you are entertained / inspired /message delivered, definition of good movie will differ from person to person, to me, a movie which gives feel-good factor is good movie.

Dhoni: The Untold Story”, though promotion was going on for long time, never thought would invest my time to see the movie, but if it was not for word to my son, would not have gone for the first show on the 2nd day release of the movie.  Shourya (my son) had seen biopic movie before and got impressed because of the song and not the story as he could hardly relate with the personality.  He is born in the age, where in India, cricket is a religion and successful players are demi Gods, one of that is M S Dhoni, hence he was keen to see this movie.

Every biopic is source of inspiration and like my son, could relate this movie better as I have witnessed most of his best performances.  Story telling in this movie is good; by ensuring that Dhoni’s character is not overplayed, instead of recreating matches editing of original match was excellent where Dhoni was replaced by Sushant.  The climax was 2011 World Cup final here too instead of Dhoni, Sushant was shown but at the end of the movie a shot from 2011 World Cup where Dhoni is waving to fans at the victory rally, transition from Sushant to Dhoni’s face was fantastic. Proof of dedication for this role is certain action of Dhoni like shrugging his shoulder, helicopter shot..was so perfect it was difficult differentiate between Dhoni and Sushant if their face is not shown in a shot.

Not being a movie critic there might be many flaws looking through lens of a critic, like song in the movie, story was fast forwarding till he get’s into Coal India Ltd through sport quota, moment where he decides to quit railways is shown in typical hindi movie way.  Compare to biopics made by western film maker like Coach Carter, The Pursuit Of Happiness, Gandhi..to name a few we are nowhere near to their class, probably we Indian like the biopic in filmy way.

Dhoni lost an opportunity as he could not join East Zone for Duleep Trophy, by the time he got to know from newspapers it was very late, but he kept trying.  He had to join railways to help his family financially but his passion for cricket made him quit the job, as he was confident of doing well, even if he fails had confidence to bounce back, because of which he had appetite for risk.

Am strong believer of this phrase, “Winners Are Not Those, Who Never Fail, But Those Never Quit”, but want my son to know this saying comes true if we have two things imbibed in us: Confidence and Risk Appetite, this is demonstrated through this biopic.
