Different Holi

This Holi was different for me in different ways:

  • Played Holi after a long time.
  • First time played Holi with my son.
  • First time saw dry Holi
  • After I decided to start blogging, I got my first subject to write, HOLI.
This year Holi was celebrated with drought all over Maharashtra and there was an appeal to play without water.  Effort was made through all form of platforms, to make awareness, not to celebrate holi with water and thereby showing solidarity to those who were effected by drought.  Normally such awareness is restricted to celebrities for showing off their commitment to social cause and media giving them necessary publicity.  Yes there was small incident, of not so famous celebrity being manhandled by group when he tried to stop them using water to play Holi.

At least in my area I was witness to people religiously restricting them to play dry Holi, but there were few who still managed to have wet Holi by using water to dilute their hard drinks, some preferred beer, Thandia and hard core traditional way was bhang.

Apart from restraining use of water in celebrating, people was conscious to use natural eco friendly colors.  Although some professors used their knowledge by being skeptical if the colors were natural as there is scarcity to produce natural colors in large quantity and there was some less harmful chemical used. Don't have much knowledge like professors but definitely can vouch colors had lot of variety and less harmful, as it had natural fragrance and easy to clean mess, which we usually feel when we stop playing Holi or we see other playing Holi.

While we are sensitive of playing dry and eco friendly Holi, engrossed in chat with friends, don't know when kids slipped and managed to get their small can filled with water and spraying on us which brought our attention on them, they have painted themselves with colors which is still on their body.

Yes we would not have sacrificed by not playing Holi, but were sensitive for those drought struck people for whom water is a luxury.

  1. A very fine job from a beginner...scope for improvement on language part...but thought-provoking blogs would definitely help in the long run...
